LINCOLNSHIRE PEST CONTROL

Rat control and entry-point assessment in Lincolnshire

A rat problem needs a route-led plan: the accessible entry points, the building and, where relevant, the drains.

Children, a baby or pets at home? Tell us when you enquire. We explain the preparation and precautions for your household.

THE ROUTE MATTERS

Look beyond the first visible hole.

Tell us where the activity is, what you have noticed and whether there are clues around drains, floor voids or outdoor access. The assessment and agreed scope determine the next step; further investigation or a separate contractor may be needed.

DRAINS ARE OFTEN PART OF THE ANSWER

A short-term seal is not the same as curing a drain defect.

Rats can use faults in the drainage system to reach a property. Where the signs point that way, a drain-camera inspection can be as important as sealing an indoor entry point. Ask your buildings insurer whether a drain investigation is available under your policy; cover and process vary.

SEE THE SIGNS IN CONTEXT

A sighting is useful information, not a reason to get closer.

Brown rat

The common brown rat is usually the species reported around homes. Describe its size, location and whether the activity is inside, under a floor or outdoors.

Black rat

Species is considered alongside the route, signs and building context rather than guessed from a single sighting. Describe what you have observed without approaching or handling the animal.

HANDLE TRAPS WITH CARE

Gloves, correct placement and patience.

Rats can be cautious around unfamiliar objects. Correct trap position and the right bait are more useful than assuming human scent explains why a trap has been avoided. We use gloves for hygienic handling and select equipment for the property.

Keep household traps inaccessible to children and pets, follow their instructions and check them regularly. An outer housing alone does not make a trap safe for unsupervised access. Do not wash used traps in a dishwasher with crockery or food utensils.
